February 4, 2007

This will be my last night in Moore Haven. The folks from Drummond Island, MI stopped by after church today to see if they could help with my head problem. They brought me a tester and the one retired from Dow showed me what to buy and how to use it. I will probably get it because I am sure that this may not be the last time I will need a tester. After working on getting my head fixed up yesterday everything still seems to be working. So maybe I fixed it and didn’t create another problem.

This morning the captains of the big boats came down and visited and boarded the boat to see what the inside looked like. They were very impressed by the workmanship and equipment that I have aboard and said in their opinion it was well thought out. They were telling me how they came about the boats they have and how they worked their way upwards from the small boats they started with. All very down to earth and fun to visit with and not the snobs I thought they might be. They told me where to go on the east coast and places that they thought I might enjoy staying at. So far everyone is very helpful and really interested in the trip and if I get to Miami and need help just call this marine place or another to get help. The information flows so fast that I need a secretary to help keep track of it all.

There is also a bass tournament going on and today must be the day they fish the Caloosahatchee river instead of Lake Okeechobee because they have been flying by at full throttle since about 7:00 AM. At the rate they fly by they must just have the lock open for them today. Other than the fisherman about six other boats have moved today. It is an overcast day and so far no rain. It rained the usual little sprinkle last night. It is also much cooler since the front passed. My weather instrument that I use says the Relative Humidity has dropped a lot and the barometric pressure is on the rise, good day tomorrow and maybe the wind will drop some more. As I am sitting here writing this, a northeast wind has begun to pick up and I bet there is some wind chill with it. The bass fisherman now look like Eskimos in there hooded garb and they are trying to hide behind the little short windshield. One of the boats had two people and one was in the bottom facing backwards. I don’t know what the wind chill would be at forty miles an hour or better but it couldn’t be nice out there.

The boat has little bits of ash on it from the fires they set in the sugar cane fields. I had it really cleaned up and this morning all this white stuff was on my dark blue bimini. Some of it is even stuck in the screens. Since it is a cold north wind today I have all these little flies on my windows trying to get in. The sugar cane train goes across the trestle about three times a day loaded down and going to where they process it. The boats going by today have to mill about until they open the trestle and it must be a slow moving one. I just had some more townsfolk go by looking at my boat. We must be on the tourist list for attractions to visit on the weekend. I know if I lived here I would come down and check it out every day.

I had a cup of my two cups of Chili for lunch, this one had meat, vegetables and black beans and was really spicy but it was good. I followed it with a pear for dessert to kind of dent the spicy taste. Can’t wait to see what the next one will taste like. Then it will be back to just my bland everyday super cuisine like egg sandwich, peanut butter sandwich and oh yes, water. I am literally off of coffee now and when I fix it I am experiencing a special occasion such as yesterday when I solved my problem. I know my wife will not believe that I can do this. That may sound bad but I am really not suffering at all. I walked five city blocks one way to the store for fruit and windex so I could have beautiful bright windows to look at the world.

I am doing this on the computer to see if it works before I publish it. It is much faster that way.
